Mashups.com : The Link and Mashups of the Day

Mashups.com : The Link and Mashups of the Day – A new Mashup site with MP3s every day!

With the Christmas gift-giving release of a mashup of Beatles Love Songs mixed by George Martin, what started out as Club DJs cross-mixing different songs and then spreading them as bootleg mp3s over the internet, has climbed out of the Underground into legitimacy. Even JC Penney has a X-mas mashup ad. The hottest trend now is to mary these audio mashups with corresponding videos, such as this Beatles Medley or the Monkees “I’m a believer” & the Beatles “Paperback Writer” mashup.

Aroesmith’s “Walk this Way” used by Run DMC was a crossover in the evolution of the Mashup with the music sampling of Urban Rap overlaying Hard Rock. The highly popular video was the first rap video ever played in heavy rotation on MTV. In addition to being one of the songs that helped break Aerosmith into the mainstream in the 1970s, it also helped resurrect their career and revolutionized rock and roll and rap music when it was re-made in 1986 with rappers Run-D.M.C. on their album Raising Hell. It became an international hit and won both groups a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap – Single in 1987. Click the image to view it. click on the other highlighted videos to play them. The Green Day video embedded below, just needs you to click on the play icon.

The Mashup ran into heavy copyright resistance. American Edit is an album of mashups paying tribute to the Green Day Album ‘American Idiot’. Although Green Day liked the album their record label banned it in late 2005. Watch ‘Boulevard of Broken Songs’ featuring Broken Dreams by Green Day, Wonderwall by Oasis, Writing to Reach You by Travis, and Sing for the Moment by Eminem. This is the original by Party Ben / Dean Gray (Pioneers of the Mashup Movement) but with video edited by Pilko, only this version is entitled ‘Wonderwall of Broken Dreams’. The audio mashup still became a huge music download favorite.

Navy Outkasts Karaoke at Sea

Those crazy squids pumpin it « Dave in Texas

Dave has linked 2 karaoke videos made at sea by the the VAW 116 Kings, who have provided carrier-based Airborne Early Warning (AEW), Airborne Battle Management, Command, Control, and Communication (ABCCC) services to the Strike Group and Joint Forces Commander. While the Vietnam generation went to war with Jimmy Hendrix ringing in their ears, this generation of co-ed warriors sails off into the wild blue yonder to Outkast. This music video is a great insight to the current Navy culture that all know the lyrics to these 2 songs -“Hey Ya'” and “Shake it like a Poloraid”.

Polonium-210 Undetectable at our Borders

In “the more bad new department”, Andrea Mitchell, who is the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent for NBC News pictured here with her husband Alan Greenspan, reports that polonium-210 emits Alpha Radiation. Our radiation detectors at our Ports, Airports and Borders can only detect Gamma radiation.

Polonium 210 can be manufactured in any small research reactor such as those found in universities around the world. The single poisoning seems to me to be a wakeup call that polonium 210 is probably the best WMD in the world. Wikipedia gives the lethal dose as 0.1 micrograms, think of a Vitamin C tablet divided into 10 million pieces. When dissolved in mild acid, such as is in the gut, a lethal dose will produce about 10 trillion atoms which tend to permeate the body and leak out of the pores. If divided and encapsulated (think time release capsule) a small amount of polonium 210 could be weaponized to float on the breeze like anthrax, it would be undetectable, indestructible and any residue would lose potency after just a few years.

Überpower: The Imperial Temptation of America

Überpower: The Imperial Temptation of America

Pithy quotes from Joefre’s speech to the Cranegie Institute. He is the editor and publisher of Germany’s most seriously weekly, Die Zeit. He has taught at Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School, and most recently at Stanford, where he was a fellow at the Hoover Institution and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.

On the day when U.S. forces marched into Baghdad, back in Tehran—if they were allowed to do so—the champagne corks must have been popping (or the Muslim version, the orange juice corks.) They must have said, “Thank you, Great Satan, for three things:

“One, thank you for taking out our worst enemy to the west, Saddam Hussein, who had inflicted a murderous war on us in 1980, which cost us a million dead. Thank you, Great Satan, for wiping out this guy.”

“Thank you, secondly, Great Satan, for lifting the yoke of Sunni oppression from our Shiite brethren, empowering the Shiite minority. There’s a natural kinship between us and them.”

“And thank you, Allah,” they must have said at this point, “for entangling the United States in the great insurgency war to come, which we can manipulate at will. We can play it like a piano.” Which is exactly what they have been doing.
The consequences are pretty bitter. With U.S. power entangled in Iraq, it has left on a loose rein the one power that really was a threat to the United States. It was Iran that was building nukes. It was Iran that was sponsoring terrorism. It was Iran that had real—and has real—hegemony ambitions in the Middle East. Continue reading “Überpower: The Imperial Temptation of America”

Looking For Love? Consumer Reports Tests 5 Online Dating Sites

Looking For Love? Consumer Reports Tests 5 Online Dating Sites – News by InformationWeek
Here’s what Consumer Reports discovered about 5 of the sites:

True: “If Internet dating makes you hesitate, try the True site because they screen their members and they have a customer-friendly privacy policy,” said Ware, who noted that True runs a background check on members against a criminal database. True reports that it will notify authorities if they find a member who has a criminal background.

eHarmony: Ware said eHarmony is good for people who want a “hand-picked” match. The site only lets you see profiles and exchange emails with people they’ve selected to be a good match for you. If you don’t want to scan through hundreds of profiles on your own, this is a good site. They’ll do that part of it for you. Continue reading “Looking For Love? Dude, Sweet Airstream

In Gear: Dude, Sweet Airstream – In Gear Online – Automobile Magazine
Sold alongside traditional Airstreams, the BaseCamp doesn’t just look different. The entire rear end opens up for loading, and the interior can be configured for hauling or hanging out. The sixteen-foot BaseCamp weighs about 2000 pounds. Prices that start at less than $20,000 should change the look of buyers as well. Says CEO Bob Wheeler: “We’re determined to change the perception that Airstreams are for your grandparents. I guess Caroline Collier wants to see Santa pulling one of these behind his sleigh, as she sent us this link. Click on the link above for more views.
