How To Discipline Your Children

Much has been said about “tough love” for misbehaving children.

Most of America thinks it improper to spank children, so my spouse and I have tried other methods to control our kids when they have one of “those moments”.

One that we found very effective is for me just to take the child for a car ride and talk.

They seem to calm down and stop misbehaving after our little ride together.

I’ve included a photo below of one of my sessions with our son, in case you would like to try the technique. 99-kid.jpg

The Gettysburg Powerpoint Presentation

The Gettysburg Powerpoint Presentation
And now please welcome President Abraham Lincoln.

Good morning. Just a second while I get this connection to work. Do I press this button here? Function-F7? No, that’s not right. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll have to reboot. Hold on a minute. Um, my name is Abe Lincoln and I’m your president. While we’re waiting, I want to thank Judge David Wills, chairman of the committee supervising the dedication of the Gettysburg cemetery. It’s great to be here, Dave, and you and the committee are doing a great job. Gee, sometimes this new technology does have glitches, but we couldn’t live without it, could we? Oh – is it ready? The Evolution of Pessimism

blog.pmarca.com: Bubbles on the brain
The human psyche seems to have a powerful underlying need to predict doom and gloom. On Wall Street, investors who have this habit are known as “perma-bears” and generally are predicting the imminent collapse of the stock market.

I suspect this need was evolved into us way back when.

If there is a nonzero chance that a giant man-eating saber-tooth tiger is going to come over the nearest hill and chomp you, then it’s in your evolutionary best interest to predict doom and gloom more frequently than it actually happens.

The cost of hiding from a nonexistent giant man-eating saber-tooth tiger is low, but the cost of not hiding from a real giant man-eating saber-tooth tiger is quite high. As well as this article on business bubbles ,read this medical paper on other evolutionary consequences of modern lifestyles.

Birdbrains Busted for Blasting Bird Brains

Songbird shooting results in felony

STUART — Wildlife officers were having an early-evening squad meeting in the Allapattah Flats area in western Martin County in March when they heard the sound of gunfire from the southwest.

Several officers and supervisors got into their trucks and followed the sound, which seemed to come from a shotgun and a small-caliber rifle. They got to an area about 3 miles south of State Road 714 near a sod farm that also includes property owned by the South Florida Water Management District. That’s when Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer Ray Woolrich realized shotgun pellets were hitting his truck.

A few minutes later, officers confronted three men who first said they were target shooting and later admitted they were shooting at birds. Continue reading “Birdbrains Busted for Blasting Bird Brains”
